Best Song You’ve Never Heard #004: Tiga – Bugatti (feat. Pusha T)

The United States of America has approximately five times as many vacant houses as it has homeless people. Sure, we’re a bastion of democracy that revels in the delights of free market. But is it possible that we’ve plateaued amidst a new societally accepted tyranny, where money itself is our omnipresent oligarch? Whether we own it or it owns us; we love to buy shit.

Perhaps nothing epitomizes our extraordinary obsession with material quite like Ace Hood’s 2013 smash hit, “Bugatti”. The explosive track featuring Rick Ross and Future has racked up more than 86,000,000 views on YouTube and sold over 1,000,000 units to date, making it certified Platinum by the RIAA. While the songs lyrics are immensely vapid, the indelible hook is still muttered by scores of brainwashed youth everywhere:

I woke up in a new Bugatti
I woke up in a new Bugatti
I woke up in a new Bugatti
I woke up in a new Bugatti
I woke up in a new Bugatti

It’s the supreme virality of the original “Bugatti” track that inspired perpetually inventive electronic artist Tiga to release 2014’s devilishly strange spin-off, also named, “Bugatti”. The production consists of a smacking, bit-crushed loop forever ascending and descending in hypnotizing helices that land between your last mind-melting LSD trip and that nightmare you always have about clowns. Tiga’s chorus is actually significantly more complex than Ace Hood’s, boasting a suggestive Q&A that one might typically encounter on a trip to the local library or grocery store:

GIRL COMES UP TO ME AND SAYS, “WHAT YOU DRIVIN’?’
I SAID, BUGATTI.

While the original is a supreme gesture to the runway, the remix featuring Pusha T brings out the absolute best rendition of the track. King Push proudly fills the discordant builds and awkward spaces with an emphatic nod to the glitz of Ace Hood’s original, infusing an otherwise absurd Tiga single with an almost impossible credibility.
